Cartridge World Helps Protect Environment

Cartridge World Helps Protect Environment: "Cartridge World Helps Protect Environment
id you know that a printer cartridge thrown into a landfill can take up to 450 years to decompose? As part of Earth Day 2006 Dobservances-and all year round-consumers are reaching towards more environmentally friendly purchases. Cartridge World, the world's fastest growing inkrefiller retailer, helps consumers and businesses make eco-friendly choices that are not just better for the environment.

With more than 750 locations across the United States, Cartridge World allows customers to drop off their cartridges and have them refilled while they wait. Small to medium sized businesses can also help protect the environment and save money by participating in the Business Direct program, which allows businesses to set up accounts with Cartridge World. The local franchise location then picks up the empty laser cartridges; refills them and delivers them back to the business (with no pick up/delivery charge to qualified businesses).

Many businesses have recycling programs for cans, bottles and papers, but few realize the additional impact they can make by reusing and refilling printer ink cartridges."

Print For A Purpose Launches 'Fight Poverty With Your Printer' Campaign During the Annual Send My Friend to School Week

Print For A Purpose Launches 'Fight Poverty With Your Printer' Campaign During the Annual Send My Friend to School Week (April 24-30): "The money-raising campaign invites consumers and businesses to join the fight against poverty through the everyday use of their printers.

Montague, MI (PRWEB) April 21, 2006 -- Print For A Purpose, a cause-driven retailer based in Michigan, announces the launch of the Fight Poverty With Your Printer campaign -- kicking off officially on Monday, April 24, the first day of the Annual Send My Friend To School Week. The company is launching with an initial goal to raise $25 Million for poverty-fighting organizations over the next five years.

“Over 100 Million children around the world are not getting the education they need to increase their income potential, improve their farming practices, and stop the spread of disease,” says Mark Terpstra, founder of Print For A Purpose. “I experienced this first hand growing up in a farming village in Senegal (West Africa). Some of my boyhood friends didn’t attend school because they couldn’t afford to buy notebooks and pens.”

That’s why Print For A Purpose is launching a national effort to raise money for education, microbusiness development and other poverty needs by selling print cartridges -- a product millions of consumers purchase on a regular basis. For every cartridge purchased from the Print For A Purpose website or catalog, 5 to 10% of the purchase price is donated to nonprofit organizations that are fighting poverty.

Buying one $20 cartridge from Print For A Purpose results in a $1 or $2 donation (depending on the brand of cartridge purchased). In many countries, that’s enough to pay for year’s worth of notebooks and pens for one student. A businesses that spends $1,000 on cartridges over the course of a year will contribute an average of $75 -- enough to pay for a whole year of primary school for an impoverished child."

You don't have to print your own money to afford ink cartridges

You don't have to print your own money to afford ink cartridges: "Readers offer money-saving tips to get a dried-up printer back in business with generic alternatives, refill kits and online suppliers.

Remember the printer cartridge ink column? Remember how I complained and asked for your help in finding ways around buying $70 worth of ink for an $80 printer? Well, here are some replies and I thank you all.

Chuck Ross wrote: 'Ink is much cheaper at Copy Systems Industries, 1601 West 190th St., Gardena (just east of Western Avenue). I have a Canon i450 printer. I bought a generic color cartridge (about the size of an ice cube) at CSI for $2.64. At Office Depot, the official Canon color cartridge is $24. The black cartridge is $8. The cheap one works just as well as the rip-off priced one."

Ink and toner cartridges are easy to recycle

Ink and toner cartridges are easy to recycle : "Where do I take my?

By Lisa Pemberton

The Olympian

Most office supply stores will accept used-up toner and ink cartridges for free. And some products include envelopes so that people can mail used cartridges to the manufacturer.

But more than 25 South Sound school groups, churches and other organizations are making money through a cartridge charity collection program offered by Rapid Refill Ink.

The Springfield, Ore.-based company — which has stores in Olympia and Lacey — pays groups $2 to $3.50 per cartridge, and as much as $10 for the most popular brands.

The company refills reusable cartridges and sells them at its stores. "

Epson Inkjet Printer Customers To Receive $45 Credit In Class Action Lawsuit

DailyTech - Epson Inkjet Printer Customers To Receive $45 Credit In Class Action Lawsuit: "Epson's incorrect reporting of inkjet cartridge levels may result in cash for those eligible

Epson America, Inc. (EAI) is going to give consumers $45 aimed towards the purchase of printers and ink cartridges after the company decided to settle lawsuits in several states. The lawsuits started after it was revealed that Epson inkjet printers and cartridges showed users that the ink cartridge was empty when it truly was not. Dozens of by-state lawsuits were filed earlier this year, but this most recent announcement combines all outstanding litigation into a single US blanket class action instead."

A Lexmark Printer That Misses The Mark

A Lexmark Printer That Misses The Mark: "This week, I tested Lexmark's (LXK) P450 photo printer, which is an unusual beast. It does many of the same things as comparable printers in its class, but unlike others, the P450 contains an internal CD drive, and can read from and record images to CD-R discs.

This is a useful feature. Among other things, it can copy photos direct to a CD from your camera or camera's memory card, or for that matter from your PC (though a connection to a PC isn't required for the other functions). This can help you preserve photos you want to keep. You never know when an unexpected hard-drive crash might erase your family's memories, so it's good to keep several redundant copies."

Inke Intros Inkjet Refill System

Inke Intros Inkjet Refill System: "Inke, a Singapore-based industrial company, has introduced its popular Auto Inkjet Refill System (AIR) in the country. Inke has signed-up with Chennai-based Jai Infosystem to launch this product in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry.

According to the company the main objective in developing this home/office device is to offer a highly engineered, reliable and viable automatic refilling method as compared to conventional manual refilling methods. Not only does the Inke Auto Inkjet Refill System rectify the faults of manual refill methods, it also promises to extend the use of the original cartridge with its more precise refilling process and automatic handling.
Company sources reveal that the Inke Auto Inkjet Refill System is welcome news to end-users who use only original cartridges. Furthermore, it will optimize the usage of inkjet printers as end-users will be inclined to use their printers more often with the much lower cost and ease-of-autorefilling afforded by Inke's ink tanks. The Refill stations will provide refills for not only black cartridges but also color cartridges with standard colors like black, cyan, magenta and yellow."

Printer Makers Answer Your Urgent Questions

Printer Makers Answer Your Urgent Questions: "Danny Allen,
PC World
Monday, April 10, 2006; 3:10 AM

When I signed off last month , I asked for questions, suggestions, or gripes that I could take to the major printer vendors on your behalf. I've been overwhelmed by your feedback and received questions from as far away as New Zealand and Slovenia.

It quickly became apparent that, although I couldn't possibly include everything you were worried about in one column, some questions were more common than others. Accordingly, I've spent the last couple of weeks chasing ten of the biggest printer vendors for their official responses to your most asked and most interesting questions."

Three for the road

Three for the road: "On some days, especially during outstation travel, I am rushing from one meeting to another. In that frenzy, there are times when I need printouts of a file in my laptop, but there isn’t a printer on hand. Or, in the coffee shop, I need to give information to a client, but I don’t have a printout.

If your needs are similar, consider a battery-operated portable printer. At present, HP is the only known manufacturer selling these printers in India. The HP Deskjet 450cbi (featured here) retails at about Rs 15,000. This inkjet printer can generate colour as well as black and white prints, at a resolution of 1,200 x 1,200 dots per inch (dpi), which is much better than the 600 x 600 dpi that normal inkjet printers give. It weighs 2.8 kg."

Help Save the Environment One Refilled Ink Cartridge at a Time

Help Save the Environment One Refilled Ink Cartridge at a Time: Financial News - Yahoo! Finance: "Lyra Research has researched some interesting facts about ink and toner cartridges:

-- 48 percent of people throw their ink cartridges into the trash.
-- In 2001, remanufacturers saved 166.2 million ink and toner cartridges
from landfills. However, there were 695 million other cartridges that
did end up in landfills.
-- The average toner cartridge weighs 3-1/2 to 4 pounds, which means that
the total weight of cartridges thrown away each year is equivalent to
67,612 Ford Explorers or 112,463 Volkswagen Beetles.
-- The plastic in each toner cartridges takes three and a half quarts of
oil to produce, and each new inkjet cartridge requires two and a half
ounces of oil.
-- Half a gallon of oil is conserved for each laser cartridge that is
returned for remanufacturing, industry sources say. Therefore, in
only 12 months, cartridge refilling could save more than 4.3 million
liters of oil.

Everyone remembers being taught to 'reduce, reuse, and recycle,' but they don't always realize that this is a hierarchy of words. The Environmental Protection Agency states that remanufactured and reused products are far more beneficial to recycled products with specific mention of toner cartridges."

Epson's newest printer is best yet

Buffalo News - Epson's newest printer is best yet: "By CRAIG CROSSMAN
KNIGHT RIDDER NEWSPAPERS
4/3/2006

It is the nature of most computer products to improve over time. Things we thought were the best at the time now appear inadequate as we embrace the newer things that replace them. For me, all I have to do is read a few columns I wrote a scant year ago. So many of the products I reviewed back then are now either obsolete or definitely on their way out. But at the time I reviewed them, they were cutting edge and I thought they were great. And they were, but only for the moment. Cutting edge is fleeting at best and that span of time keeps getting shorter with every passing year.

It was only a year ago when I wrote about Epson's newest printing marvel, the R320. It featured many new and innovative abilities such as being able to print directly onto printable CDs and DVDs, thus bypassing the need for labels. And now its successor is here in the model R340 and it has it all - well at least for this year."

Refill, don't replace

The Seattle Times: Make It Count: Refill, don't replace: "By Tom Watson

Special to The Seattle Times

Sometimes saving money and helping the environment can fit together like ... well, like the way the printer ink cartridge fits into your computer printer.

If you've been buying brand-name ink cartridges for your printer, you've surely noticed the high prices. Critics have said that, ounce-for-ounce, printer ink often costs more than perfume.

But you can save up to 50 percent — and help reduce waste and conserve resources — by purchasing refilled or remanufactured cartridges. You have an increasing number of choices now, so if you've shied away from those lower-cost alternatives in the past, it's time to give them another look."

Patented ICs key to averting competition

Color inkjet cartridges: Exports, patented ICs key to averting competition: "Makers thwart sliding demand through reinforced export capability, models with enhanced features and use of in-house designed ICs.

In spite of the growing competition, slimming profit margins, and increasing adoption of laser printers that are slowing down the growth of the ink cartridge industry in Greater China, makers persist in expanding their export and R&D capabilities. There are more than 20 small and medium-scale suppliers of ink cartridges in Taiwan. Some makers, such as Winsom International Co., develop their own ink and upgrade R&D and quality control standards to match the quality of original brands. Other makers, including Avcolor Technology Co. Ltd, design their own ICs.

To counteract a downtrend, Taiwan makers are working to enhance product features such as improved water and light resistance, and the release of more niche products such as invisible ink, fluorescent ink and monochromatic ink."
